Liposuction

Liposuction

Sometimes, dieting and exercising are not enough to lose stubborn fat. As you start gaining weight, you start losing confidence and self-esteem. With the help of Liposuction, you can get a beautiful body shape. Through this technique, you can get improved body contours and proportions.

Liposuction is done in the area where there are maximum fat deposits such as the abdomen, flanks, back, buttocks, thighs, arms, chest, and face. Other plastic surgeries can be done simultaneously such as breast reduction, facelift, and tummy tuck. Liposuction helps in weight loss because of the removal of fat surgically but is considered more of a body contouring than weight reduction.

Liposuction Procedure

After a certain age, our body has a constant number of fat cells. Depending upon our diet and physical activity, these cells increase or decrease in size leading to weight gain or loss. Removal of these fat cells from a particular area will, therefore, lead to a, more or less, permanent result.

The procedure is performed under general or local anesthesia depending upon the number of areas to be treated. Small 3 mm incisions are made close to the area to be treated. These are well-hidden in the skin folds so that the tiny scars are hardly visible. Cannulas are inserted through this incision and a wetting solution is infiltrated. Subsequently, the fat is aspirated. It is safe to remove up to 10% of your body fat in one session.

Post-procedure

You are advised to wear a pressure garment all day long for 4-6 weeks after the procedure. This helps reduce some of the swellings and also helps contour the loose skin following the loss of fat.

There could be some bruising, swelling, and discomfort following the procedure, most of which resolve in a week or two. Results can be appreciated once all of the swellings have been resolved. You can resume your day-to-day activities in 3-4 days and are advised to start walking 10 days post-surgery. Heavy exercises can be started 4 weeks after the surgery.

Complications are rare after liposuctions. However, seromas, dyspigmentation, ulcerations, and clots may occur, which can be addressed.
