Breast Reduction
This procedure is used in conjunction with liposuction to remove fat from the armpit area
The goal of this procedure is to give patient smaller breasts that are in proportion with the rest of her body. Breast reduction involves the removal of exessive fat, glandular tissue and skin from breast tissue, that results in smaller, lighter and firmer breasts. Breast reduction can also reduce the size of the areola – the darker skin tissue surrounding the nipple.
The Surgery
Although techniques vary, the most common breast reduction procedure involves an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola, which extends downward, and follows the natural curve of the crease beneath the breast. Excess glandular tissue, fat and skin are removed, moving the nipple and areola to their new positions. The surgery usually lasts for 2-4 hours.
What To Expect After The Surgery ?
It may take about 2-6 weeks for breasts to settle into their new shape; however, the swelling and bruising will disappear in the first few weeks. The patient may return to work (if not too strenuous) and social activities in about 2 weeks.
